Is Your Pet, Home Alone Too Much?
Most pet owners adopt their pets with every intention of spending quality time with them. But life happens, long work hours set in often leaving behind a lonely pet.
According to a study done by the Scottish SPCA, “Eight out of ten veterinarians say they have seen an increase in animals suffering form behavioral problems as a result of being left by their owners.”
Joyce Stuart, a leading Scottish canine behaviorist says that, “symptoms can manifest in one of three ways - the dog either barks continuously, destroys furniture, or it does the toilet in the house.”
Luckily professional pet sitters are popping up just about everywhere and not just to fill in for the owner when he or she goes on a trip but also to help out with daily visits when the owner is working.
In my own experience as a pet sitter and dog walker, I’ve had many clients call me when their schedules are full and they are always pleasantly surprised how just one daily visit makes such a difference in their pet’s behavior!
So, if you decide to hire a dog walker, think about what specific needs your pet has.
Puppies seem to enjoy playtime and a short walk, young adult dogs love to walk and some love to go for a run and many older dogs and cats just need a little TLC and companionship.
